From their origins in 1919, the RAF Central Fund has been dedicated to providing support to serving RAF personnel. The aim is to develop, achieve and help create an enhanced sense of well-being, morale, esprit de corps and community cohesion. The RAF Sports Lottery provides £2.8 million of funding for projects with that in mind.
The RAF Sports Lottery is an important source of funding for the RAF Central Fund, and they needed a way to reach a wider audience and encourage lottery sign-ups. Their online presence needed to be simple and accessible, with clear calls to action for lottery sign-up, all backed by a CMS that could be managed easily in-house.
After initially embarking on a project with another agency, RAF Central Fund approached the team at BFI to take the reins and complete delivery of their CMS website. The scope of this website quickly evolved – from a simple and informative CMS to a more feature rich lottery management system with integrated payments and sign-ups.

We delivered a flexible CMS, through which RAF CF staff are able to quickly and easily add content and make changes to any aspect of the website, as well as publishing weekly lottery results.
Facilitating new player sign-up journeys, an accessible lottery results search and supporting information, the website has evolved into a content and feature rich resource for RAF personnel and staff alike. Content is also made available to the RAF CF Android and iOS apps, via an API that we designed and built – ensuring accurate and consistent publication of information across the board.
The RAF CF make use of specialist charitable lottery management providers to deliver their weekly lottery. We integrated their new player sign-up process directly with this external payment gateway to offer easy on-site sign-ups, for a seamless user journey. Users are offered flexible ticket purchasing options – they’re able to opt for monthly subscription via Direct Debit, or purchase batches of tickets via card payment on an ad hoc basis.
See the resultThe RAF CF needed a way for users to easily search historical lottery draw information, allowing them to quickly find winners’ details. We extended their CMS to include a lottery results manager, to which weekly draw results can be quickly uploaded and made available to end users immediately, with minimum effort.
